We work with young women through their pregnancy and until they are effectively engaged with maternal and child health services after birth – usually 6 to 8 weeks.

The service is aimed at pregnant women who are unable to access antenatal care services or who need extra support because they have greater health risks as a result of factors such as:

  • socio-economic status
  • culturally and linguistically diverse background
  • mental health issues
  • history of engagement with child protection services
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent
  • distance from services.

We aim to address risk factors and needs by connecting women to services, support networks, and education to improve the health and wellbeing of mothers and babies.

The program includes the following services:

  • Community-based and outreach support
  • Help with accessing clinical antenatal care providers and maternal and child health nurses
  • Help to link up with health and human service providers as needed
  • Health information and education, especially about the impacts of drug and alcohol use, smoking, healthy eating, exercise, and breastfeeding
  • Peer support from other pregnant women
