Alcohol and Drug Support

DirectLine provides a central 24-hour telephone counselling, information and referral service for anyone in Victoria wishing to discuss an alcohol or drug-related issue. It complements the network of treatment and support services in the Victorian community and provides:

• information, counselling, and referral around alcohol and drug issues
• an immediate and highly accessible alcohol and drug response service
• access 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help prevent or reduce problems associated with drug use
• an anonymous and confidential service.

Counselling Online is a free and confidential service that provides support 24 hours a day, seven days a week to people across Australia affected by alcohol or drug use.

Family Drug Help provides telephone information and support 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 1300 660 068.

Gateway Health has developed the catchment-based needs assessment and strategic plan for addressing critical service delivery gaps in Alcohol and Other Drugs for Ovens Murray (Hume).

Catchment Based Planning (CBP) is a systematic way to respond to the service needs of our local communities. The primary purpose of the CBP function is to produce local plans that identify critical service gaps and pressures and to provide an evidence base for strategies that improve responsiveness to people with AOD issues, considering population diversity and broader community needs.

• Report structure
• Data analysis
• Priorities
• Activity Plan

This plan has necessarily focused on improving service delivery, access and equity within the current funding and service model parameters, and will ensure a continuous improvement approach involving key stakeholders and users of the system in future planning and delivery. The ongoing work to provide high-quality AOD treatment services and at the same time to reduce demand will not stop based on the life of this plan. Sustaining partnerships and commitment to prevention, reducing risk and building strong communities and individuals in Ovens Murray is what will make the difference in our communities over time.
