Gateway Health employees were recognised at last night’s Victorian Rural Health Awards Gala as finalists in two categories at the annual ceremony. 

Speech pathologist Allan Marsh was a finalist for Outstanding Contribution by a Rising Star.

The Rising Star Award celebrates the future of rural healthcare, recognising a junior health professional who has shown a true passion for rural health and is intent on dedicating their career to rural communities.

Allan was nominated by his colleagues for his creation of the innovative Deci-belters therapeutic singing group.

It is a weekly therapy group that uses music to improve the voice, communication, and quality of life for persons with progressive neurological conditions (e.g., Parkinson’s Disease or multiple sclerosis). 

Clinical Lead at headspace Albury Wodonga and headspace Wangaratta Michalla Baumann was named a finalist for Outstanding Contribution by a Mentor/Supervisor.

This inaugural award acknowledges the exceptional efforts and dedication of a mentor or supervisor in providing support, knowledge, skills, inspiration and encouragement to health professionals.

Michalla was nominated as she is exceptionally dedicated mentor and supervisor to the headspace team, which includes early career professionals to experienced mental health clinicians.

She has a keen understanding of the individual needs of each person she works with and for seeing their potential and strengths.  

“I’m incredibly proud of Allan and Michalla on their achievements,” Gateway Health CEO Trent Dean said. 

“It’s always wonderful to see the staff at Gateway Health receive recognition for their passion and dedication to helping our clients and community improve their health and wellbeing.”  

The Victorian Rural Health Awards, hosted by Rural Workforce Agency, recognises outstanding contributions made by rural health professionals working in rural communities. 

The awards honour the exceptional medical professionals, nurses, allied health professionals, Aboriginal health workers, and practice managers across rural Victoria.
