Free naloxone coming around the clock to Wangaratta
Gateway Health’s Wangaratta site has been chosen to host a naloxone dispensing machine, giving the community free access to a life-saving medication 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The machine is part of a Victorian Government trial rolling out 20 dispensing machines across the state, with 10 in regional and rural communities. It is expected to be installed in the coming months.
Naloxone is a free, easy to use nasal spray that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose. It is a bit like CPR, a simple tool anyone can use to help save a life. It is non addictive, cannot be misused and works on heroin, prescription and synthetic opioids.
Gateway Health already provides free naloxone and training during business hours at our Wodonga and Wangaratta sites, with no Medicare or Health Care Card needed. The dispensing machine will build on this by removing barriers like cost, stigma and opening hours.
