Multicultural communities include individuals and families from diverse refugee and migrant backgrounds – a steadily growing population.
More than 10% of residents were born overseas, almost 25% of residents have at least one parent born overseas, and more than 55 languages (other than English) are spoken in homes across the Ovens and Murray region.
Recently, Gateway Health successfully completed the project “Culturally Responsive Conversations about Respectful Relationships”. The project raised awareness amongst adults, community and faith leaders, and young people about the driving factors of gender inequality, types of family violence and its impact – especially on women and children. It also provided information on how to access family violence services.
The Respectful Relationships video is available in five languages:
- English
- Hindi
- Kinyarwanda
- Nepali
- Swahili
