Pride Month is a momentous time marked annually around Australia and the world. It is a time when we reflect on the bravery and resilience of those who have fought for LGBTIQA+ rights throughout history and continue to do so today. It is a time to speak out against discrimination and violence. A time to celebrate diversity and inclusion, and to stand in solidarity.
Everyone deserves to be safe, empowered and celebrated, and to have their rights respected and upheld. The recent threats directed towards the LGBTIQA+ community are a reminder that there is still so much work to do before all of us are truly equal and safe.
I want to reaffirm Gateway Health’s commitment to advocating for and supporting the LGBTIQA+ community. We will continue advocating for the human rights of all people, maintaining our stand against hatred and discrimination.
As a service provider, ally and supporter, we will continue working hard with community members and partners to ensure welcoming and inclusive environments for all people in our diverse and vibrant communities. We are committed to driving positive and genuine change that ensures LGBTIQA+ people of all ages feel respected, safe and supported.
We recognise that the current community unrest causes stress and fear in the lives of LGBTIQA+ people and their peers, families and carers. If you or someone you know needs help, please get in touch with Lifeline on 13 11 14, QLife on 1800 184 527, or Rainbow Door on 1800 729 367.
Let’s stand together in solidarity and in celebration of the LGBTIQA+ community.
