Rainbow Tick Accreditation at Gateway Health

Gateway Health is working to achieve ‘Rainbow Tick’ accreditation this year, as a demonstration of its commitment to achieving practices and service standards that are truly inclusive to people of all gender identities and sexual orientations.

The Rainbow Tick Accreditation program aims to help organisations improve the quality of care and services they provide to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gender diverse, intersex and asexual/aromantic (LGBTIQA+) consumers, staff and volunteers.

Gateway Health, assisted by the Rainbow Tick Working Group, has been working towards achieving Rainbow Tick Accreditation by 2021.

Gateway Health recognises that while many LGBTIQA+ people live healthy and happy lives, a disproportionate number experience higher rates of illness, poor mental and physical health. These outcomes are a direct result of homophobia, transphobia, harassment, maltreatment, discrimination and victimisation - simply for being who they are. Often these stressors are everyday ones, and can have lifelong impacts.

This is not caused by a person’s gender identity or sexual orientation in themselves, but are the result of everyday experiences that reinforce the message that LGBTIQA+ people are lesser or simply ‘wrong’.

If you are part of the LGBTIQA+ communities and would like to be help shape our services for the better, please contact Peter Muldoon on 02 6055 3030.
