DESCRIPTION:Join this free information session to understand the risks of gambling among young people and the role parents and carers can play in influencing their attitudes and access to gambling. \nDelivered by Gateway Health and Gambler’s Help\, the one-hour session will cover: \n\nFacts\, risks and issues of young people and gambling;\nKey influences on young people to gamble;\nHow to identify signs of gambling harm;\nHow to help young people avoid harm from gambling; and\,\nWhere to get professional advice and support.\n\nThe session is open to parents and carers of secondary students in years 9\, 10\, 11 and 12. \nRegister here \nWhy should parents and carers be concerned? \nEven though gambling is only legal for people aged 18 and over\, studies show that 1 in 5 boys and 1 in 8 girls aged 16–17 reported having gambled in the past year. And research shows that many adults who experience problems with gambling began gambling before they were 18 \nWhat Is Be Ahead of The Game? \nBe Ahead of the Game is a gambling awareness program for young people. It helps school communities understand how young people may be affected by gambling and mitigate the risks. The research-backed program is developed by the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation in partnership with Gambler’s Help community educators.
